Bowley Recycling Appeal
The Bowley Recycling Appeal is designed to make money by recycling mobile phones, PDAs, CDs, DVDs and printer cartridges. The Bowley Recycling Appeal benefits so many people within Scouting in East Lancashire. The money we generate can be used to help run the site and buy much needed equipment to extend the range of facilities available. Not only that, our recycling efforts will have a positive impact on our environment.
The mobiles and PDAs you donate will be refurbished and resold or fully recycled. Refurbished mobiles may be sent to developing countries where there are few landlines meaning the person who ends up with your phone might rely on it for their business or to keep in touch with family and friends. Your old mobile could really change someone's life!
The printer cartridges you collect will be refilled and returned to the consumer stream as an environmentally friendly product. And the CDs and DVDs you donate will be either recycled or donated to people in developing countries.
When mobiles, CDs, DVDs and cartridges are binned they end up in landfill sites where they take hundreds of years to biodegrade. What's more, the toxic chemicals they contain will eventually leak into the soil and pollute the environment. Just think of the millions of mobile phones and cartridges which are binned every year and you'll begin to realise just how much damage they cause to the environment.
To offer these great services, we've teamed up with scoutsappeal.com, who provide the mobile phone, PDA and printer cartridge recycling facilities, and musicmagpie.co.uk, who recycle the CDs and DVDs we collect.
So, how do you get involved?
- Please pop mobile phones, PDAs and printer cartridges into the blue recycling bin outside the County Office.
- If you're donating your old CDs and DVDs, please make sure you read the important notes below, and then pop them into the box outside the County Office.
Important notes for recycling CDs and DVDs
- To get money for your discs, we need you to make sure you send your discs in their original boxes, with any booklets or inserts. Please make sure that the discs you send to us have barcodes on the back of the boxes. Unfortunately, we can’t – therefore – accept CDs and DVDs which are given away in newspapers or magazines.
- We can't accept...
- Copied or pirate discs.
- Discs with deep scratches, dents or other serious damage. However, discs with light surface scratches are usually acceptable.
- Where discs came with booklets and artwork, these need to be free from tears, stickers and other major blemishes.
